The Accountability, Coherence and Transparency Group (ACT) lessons learned on the selection and appointment of the ninth Secretary-General of the United Nations

24.10.2017

Take a look at the Accountability, Coherence and Transparency Group (ACT) lessons learned on the selection and appointment of the ninth Secretary-General of the United Nations.

Estonia transmitted on behalf of 25 Member States of ACT a note (http://undocs.org/en/A/72/514) on the selection process of the ninth Secretary-General of the United Nations in 2015 and 2016.

The cross-regional Group played a leading role in the negotiations on the revitalization of the General Assembly on increased transparency, inclusiveness and accountability of the process for selecting the ninth Secretary-General, and we hope that the note as an official UN document will serve as a reference for future selection processes.
