Mr Chair,

Let me first start by congratulating you for being elected the as the President of this Conference.

Estonia believes that current global challenges require effective efforts and the role of United Nations multilateral development system is crucial. Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development outlined an ambitious vision for a new era of global development.
We are pleased to participate in this annual pledging conference for development activities.

Estonia has been active donor for almost two decades. Through voluntary contributions Estonia regularly supports activities of several United Nations agencies, funds and programmes, promoting global peace, security and development. We have increased our contributions gradually over the past years and we continue to do so.

In this context, Estonia is pleased to announce some of our voluntary core contributions for the UN development activities for the year 2018.

  • Protecting the rights of children as the most vulnerable groups is high on the Estonian Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid agenda. For UNICEF we will be contribute 150 000 euros;
  • Estonia has supported UNWOMEN from the beginning of this entity and our annual contribution is 80 000 euros;
  • We fully acknowledge the importance of UNDP in the field of development pledging 75 000 euros for its programs;
  • UN Peacekeeping Facility will receive 75 000 euros;
  • For UNFPA 60 000 euros.
Estonia will continue to provide annual funding support for humanitarian initiatives implemented by the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the Central Emergency Trust Fund (CERF), Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Additionally, Estonia will also continue to provide non-core funding for a range of the UN agencies supporting their projects in many countries around the world.

I thank you!
